A Brief History of Alcoholics Anonymous in Saipan
My name is Wolf and I am an alcoholic.
Here is the history of Alcoholics Anonymous in Saipan (to the best of my recollection).
In early 1987, Nancy W. from Seattle moved with her husband to Saipan. The meetings were held at the local food stamp office. I joined the group in December 1987. We moved to the Commonwealth Health Center where we used the Continuing Education room for a couple of years. Around 1990 we moved to the Kristo Rai Social Hall Annex. We stayed there until July of 2002 when flood damage forced us to look for new quarters. We moved to a government building called N-5 from July to September, and as of October 1, 2002, we meet at the old K.S.A.I. radio station building in Susupe, Saipan.
We currently average about 12 people at each meeting. We meet on Monday and Wednesdays at 7:00 pm, and Fridays at 6:00 pm. Our group also meets at the local prison on Sunday mornings at 8:00 am. There is also an active NA group on the island.
We are located at latitude 15.5 degrees north, and 145.5 degrees east longitude or about 1500 miles east of Manila, 1500 southeast of Tokyo, 3000 miles due north of Sydney Australia, and 120 miles north of Guam.
