A Way To Measure Serenity

Early in my sobriety I got angry at my wife and stormed out of the house. Instead of going to a bar, I went to the AA clubhouse where I found my sponsor sitting at a table. I turned the air blue with profanity and when he asked what was wrong, I told him, “That !@#$ Tried to tell me how to hang a curtain rod.”
He began to laugh and that made me madder. When I finally calmed down and asked him what was so !@#$ funny, he looked at me and said, “Bill, we are only as big as the smallest thing that makes us mad.” That was over fifteen years ago, and when I begin to get angry I still ask myself, “How big am I?” Sometimes I can be pretty small.
