Dr. Bob frequently presented our Creator to A.A. pioneers as a God of love. He said A.A.’s basic ideas came from their study and effort in the Bible. His wife Anne Smith often reminded early AAs of the declarations in 1 John 4:8 and 1 John 4:16 that God is love. She also stated in her journal that the Bible was the main source and that not a day should pass without reading it. And here are some of the verses which support and elaborate upon what these two great founders so often said concerning our Heavenly Father’s love for his kids..
John 3:16: For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Jhn 16:27 For the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God.
Jhn 17:23 I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.
Rom 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Rom 8:39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
2Cr 13:11 Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you.
Eph 2:4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
2Th 2:16 Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given [us] everlasting consolation and good hope through grace,
Tts 3:4 But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared,
1Jo 3:1 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.
1Jo 4:8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.
1Jo 4:9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.
1Jo 4:10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son [to be] the propitiation for our sins.
1Jo 4:11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.
1Jo 4:16 And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.
1Jo 4:19 We love him, because he first loved us.
Note: In A.A., I first heard some of these verses quoted by the great circuit speaker Eve as she spoke at an A.A. Conference in Fresno, California.
